Storytelling

I love stories and I read a great one this past week. The book is titled Helena: Unwavering Courage by Sylvia Melvin. Sylvia tells the story of her grandmother's life and she weaves an interesting story. After reading it I feel I knew Helena myself and am inspired by her life and how she lived it. Sylvia wanted to keep a story alive that had lived in her family for years. But it had only been recorded and passed down to others in the ancient storytelling tradition of word-of-mouth. Sylvia has preserved it forever not only for her family but for others as well. Her book has awakened in me an urge to follow her lead and record stories from my family. Maybe some of my readers will also be inspired to take her lead. Stories are important remnants of our lives and it is a very important job to keep the stories alive. Thanks Sylvia for reminding us of that!

Have a blessed day!
