Songwriting

I had an absolutely fantastic weekend. I attended a local songwriting workshop sponsored by the Songwriter's Guild of America. Guest speakers were numerous hit songwriters such as Rick Carnes and Randy Sharp. Some of the most inspiring and down-to-earth people that I have ever met. I was honored just to be in the same room with them. God has indeed sent me off on an incredible journey.

Not only did I learn a lot about the craft of songwriting but I realized that many songwriters have had the same experiences that I have. Many described how the melodies or lyrics just started flowing out of them like water. They don't know where it comes from or how it came to be but songs were born. Most of us described having songs come to us during the night or at odd times when our minds were on other things. Many of us aren't musicians and don't play an instrument yet there is music coming out of us.

I can now say with more confidence in myself that I am a songwriter. This is a purpose that God has gifted me with and I must use it as he leads. What a wonderful journey this is turning out to be.
